Our Story

MotherBees emerged in a rebirth.
...
Founder, Heng Ou comes from a long line of Chinese healers. After her first childs’ birth, her acupuncturist Auntie Ou welcomed her into the traditional practice of Zuo Yuezi, a 40 day tradition of complete rest and retreat after childbirth, where she was cooked restorative, balancing foods and cared for according to the principles of Chinese medicine.
...
Four years later, after the birth of her third child, Heng was back at her computer two weeks after giving birth, serving the needs of her young family. Her own body and spirit placed on the back burner, she experienced postpartum depression, which her midwife noticed from a home visit. She felt deep repercussions within herself and in her relationship with her family, and began to understand the deep value of mothering the mother.
...
MotherBees began in Heng’s home kitchen in 2010, after a set of wild bees made a hive on the deck of their home in the hills. She started delivering homemade restorative soups and tonics to friends and family in the Los Angeles area to extend the kind of care she received, to others. After awakening from postpartum depression and the challenges of early motherhood, and aligning paths with her co-authors, she wrote her first book, The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mothera calling to reclaim the old ways and shared wisdom amongst women, knowing that it takes a loving hive to thrive.

Her newest book, Awakening Fertility is coming in March 24, 2020. 🧡
